Revival

We all need a revival sometimes. I do.

For the last few years, I was working a second job, actually running pretty ragged. I got into it for all the right reasons, I thought. But eventually realized it was just too much. So a few months ago, I left that position. And began the process of adjusting to my current routine, and just resting. I also find myself living more fully, paying attention more to life around me.

In our families, we can't leave that job behind. 24-7 someone is counting on us. But we can look seriously at our commitments and make some choices about what is really most important.

So with this in mind, I am reviving this blog that I let slip. My life work has been about children and families. And that is still very meaningful for me. But I also want to shift the focus here somewhat.

We ALL need guidance. We all need help along the way. And life is full of change, as we shift our focus slightly, growing with those around us. What helps us to flow with this process? Where do we reach for inner and outer support? What are you reading? What poetry makes you smile or gives you a boost?

You Reading This, Be Ready
by William Stafford

Starting here, what do you want to remember?
How sunlight creeps along a shining floor?
What scent of old wood hovers, what softened
sound from outside fills the air?

Will you ever bring a better gift for the world
than the breathing respect that you carry
wherever you go right now?

Are you waiting for time to show you some better thoughts?
When you turn around, starting here, lift this
new glimpse that you found; carry into evening
all that you want from this day. This interval you spent
reading or hearing this, keep it for life -

What can anyone give you greater than now,
starting here, right in this room, when you turn around?
